In the early stages of the game, colonize every
planet you discover, then try to make as much 
money as possible, also research newer ship and
tank tech. Building tech get low priority, you 
get them from pirates and conquered enemy planets,
destroy as much races as you can in the beginning,
if you have more than 35-40 planets you can repeat
building battleships and cruisers, and then beat 
the others. 

Try to beat the strong races first, like the 
Kra'hen, Shinari and the Solarians (depends on who
you play!!)
