The save system is flaky, but workable. Because you
don't want to try to hit a boss or wander into a 
thick fight without a current save, just leave a 
level and come back. This auto-saves quickly, and 
because levels are usually small and fast-loading, 
it's the best solution. Once you get the Walk The
Abyss discipline, you can zap back to your tomb and
save as often as you like.
